About

The Rare Barrel, an all-sour beer company based in Berkeley, CA, has an immediate opening for an entry-level, full-time position as an Operations Assistant. We are searching for someone responsible and trustworthy who can match our passion for sour beer and commitment to quality. We work as a team and share in both the difficulties and the fun aspects of working at a brewery. Prior experience working in a brewery, winery or distillery is not required, but preferred. Work experience with areas related to forklift operation, driving, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and/or welding is great, but not required.
 
This position will report to the Director of Sales and Marketing. Secondarily, this position will report to the Cellar Manager.
 
Hours | 5 days per week (8+ hours per day), Monday - Friday and 1 Saturday per month. Some exceptions (ie, attending an event)
Compensations | Entry-Level, DOE

Requirements

This is a physical position. Employee must be able to stand for long periods of time and be comfortable working on their feet. Employees must also be able to lift 40 lb. boxes and 55 lb kegs regularly. This is a bona fide requirement of the job.
 
Safety must always be a priority. Due to the physical nature of the job and the inherent risks of working in a production facility doing this job safely must be your first priority.
 
Employee must be able to drive a forklift and become forklift certified within 2 weeks of starting this position. The Rare Barrel will provide the training for this.

Employee must be highly organized and detail oriented.
 
Proficiency in Google Drive, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows OS is required.
 
Employee must be a team player, honest, trustworthy, dedicated, hard-working, self-motivated, and possess a strong attention to detail. A personal commitment to cleanliness and efficiency is required.
 
Must love sours.

Duties

Sales and Marketing Department

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate movement of packaged beer and keep the packed beer areas organized and accessible. Beer must be readily accessible to the Tasting Room, Production, Sales and Marketing and our Quality Department.
  • Picking and packing of orders for consumers, retailers, off-site events, distributors and exporters.
  • Load and unload deliveries and/or pickups at the brewery.
  • Work with production to schedule forklift and other material handling usage.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Participate in monthly inventory counts. If there are larger discrepancies between book and physical inventory, take steps to discover where the inventory discrepancies are coming from.
  • Retail finished beer delivery.

Production Department

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Handling internal inventory transfers from Production to Sales / Marketing.
  • Load and unload deliveries and/or pickups at the brewery.
  • Assist in keg, barrel, bottle, etc. handling.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with some cellar operations in the brewery, including keg washing and packaging.

Company-wide:

  • Paperwork - Ensure that all relevant paperwork and data entry is complete, accurate and on time.
  • Communication - Liaison between Sales / Marketing and Production.
  • Maintenance - Keep all related equipment and areas in good working order.
  • Development and maintenance of all SOP, checklists, plans and best practice documents for the duties above.
  • Other tasks as needed.
